Due to the success of our existing Memory Wellbeing Centre, we are delighted to announce that we have launched a second Memory Wellbeing Centre at Shawford Springs Care Home. Based on the Meeting Centre model, facilitating a second Memory Wellbeing Centre means we can reach and provide ongoing support to more families and carers who are supporting someone living with dementia. As part of our new centre, carers have the opportunity to join our six-month Educational Programme, delivered by our Admiral Nursing team.
Much like our existing Memory Wellbeing Centre at the Everyone Active Winchester Sport & Leisure Park, our second Memory Wellbeing Centre provides a safe place for both the carer and the person living with dementia. The carers have the opportunity to speak with an Admiral Nurse for specialist guidance and advice, and the person with dementia can enjoy the companionship of other members, as well being supported with a range of engaging activities. Both our Memory Wellbeing Centres are available to those who are outside of our Dementia Support service catchment area.
Our second Memory Wellbeing Centre is held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month between 10:00am-12:30pm at Shawford Springs Care Home, and will be supported by volunteers and our Dementia Support team. Sessions are free to attend and there is free parking on site. The Number 1 bus travels from Winchester and Southampton, and the nearest stop to Shawford Springs is Highways Road.
Unlike our Everyone Active Memory Wellbeing Centre, our Shawford Springs Memory Wellbeing Centre has a maximum capacity of 20 people (including members and carers). Because of this, we are running sessions and our Educational Programme on a six-month rolling basis. If you would like to enquire about our centre or programme, or to join our waiting list, please fill in our referral form and return it to dementiasupport@stjohnswinchester.co.uk. You can also make a referral here. Professionals are encouraged to complete and return this form.
If you would like further information about our Memory Wellbeing Centres or our Dementia Support service, please phone our Dementia Support team on 01962 85828 or email dementiasupport@stjohnswinchester.co.uk.
We are delighted to be able to work with St John’s Winchester to host the new Memory Wellbeing Centre at our beautiful new care home. Providing personalised dementia care is at the heart of our home, all of our staff are dementia trained, so we jumped at the chance to help provide a regular service to the local community that will help more people who are living with dementia and those who support them.
