Affordable housing

We are proud to be part of the almshouse movement which boasts 35,000 almshouses across the UK. We are unique within the movement as we provide unrivalled levels of care and support to residents who cherish their independence. Helping people maintain their independence remains the charity’s driving force today.

Our almshouse community provides a friendly, welcoming and safe place where older people lead full and independent lives. People choose how to spend their time, with as much or as little support as they want and need.

My mother moved into her own flat at St John’s over five years ago. Since then, her quality of life has improved in so many ways. The staff at St John’s nurture and care for the residents in a remarkable way. They demonstrate their care, professionalism and humour on a daily basis.

For some residents, all they need is a daily call. For others, there is a range of care, visits and activities available. St John’s enables people to live as independently as possible, with support changing as residents need it.
