One month to go!
We are very excited to announce that we will be holding a summer fete on Saturday 25th June. The aim of our fete is to raise much-needed funds for four lifesaving defibrillators, three of which are to be situated within the charity’s almshouses based in central Winchester. We hope that we will raise enough money to buy a fourth defibrillator which will be placed out in the wider community for the benefit of local people.
Our vibrant community has come together with residents, staff and volunteers working side by side to organise and host a fun event to raise money for a great cause. It will be a traditional summer fete for all the family to enjoy with children’s entertainment, a raffle, home grown plants and an impressive bric-a-brac stall. The fete is free to enter but visitors are asked to bring any spare change to add to the charity’s coin trail around the rose garden, not forgetting the home-made cake stall expertly made by residents who have years of cake baking experience!
The fete will be situated on St John’s North Side which is located at the bottom of Winchester Broadway opposite King Alfred’s statue, and will be open between 11am – 3pm.
Two of the fete organisers, Kevan Kenny and Penny Parker, commented: “We’re excited to be hosting this community fete so people can come and experience the warmth and friendliness at St John’s while raising money for critical life-saving equipment. If a defibrillator is used within the first five minutes of the heart stopping, you are 10 times more likely to survive than using CPR alone. These staggering figures have really driven us all to support this fundraising effort. We look forward to welcoming you at our fete!”.
