Support St John's Winchester

For almost 900 years, St John’s has been part of the fabric of Winchester.

Generations of local people have come together to create places of belonging, provide support when it is needed most, and help ensure that older people can continue to live with dignity, independence and purpose.

Today, that mission is as important as ever.

As our city grows and changes, more people are living longer, communities are becoming more fragmented, and many older people face increasing challenges in maintaining the connections, confidence and support networks that help them thrive.

At St John’s, we believe later life should be a time of opportunity, connection and fulfilment. Through our housing, wellbeing activities, community programmes and partnerships, we bring people together, support independence and help create a stronger, more connected Winchester.

But we cannot do this alone.

By supporting St John’s, you are investing in the future of our city and the people who call it home. Your generosity helps us develop new opportunities, strengthen our communities and ensure that future generations can benefit from the same spirit of care and connection that has defined St John’s for centuries.

Every contribution, whether large or small, helps us continue that work.

Together, we can create places where people feel connected rather than isolated. We can support independence and wellbeing in later life. We can preserve and enhance spaces that bring communities together. And we can ensure that St John’s remains a positive force in Winchester for generations to come.

“St John’s has never simply been about providing support. It has always been about building community. Every gift helps us strengthen the connections, opportunities and sense of belonging that make Winchester such a special place to live.”

Tim Bissett, CEO

Volunteer with us

Here at St John’s Winchester, we see volunteers as part of the team, and we are very lucky to have a wonderfully dedicated group of volunteers who contribute to the success of our charity.

There are many ways to get involved as a volunteer with St John’s and by giving even a small amount of time can have a huge impact.

You will become part of our St John’s community supporting the wellbeing of our residents, sharing in the activities they enjoy and maybe even learning something new along the way.

Volunteering is an excellent way to learn new skills, improve your confidence and have fun.

Our volunteers can help in lots of ways. Examples of our volunteer roles include:

  • Supporting our Memory Wellbeing Centre
  • Supporting resident groups
  • Supporting our Chapel services
  • Volunteering in our offices
  • Volunteering in our beautiful gardens

As a volunteer, you will receive support to undertake your role and guidance from our Volunteer Coordinator and St John’s staff. We really value the time and commitment of our volunteers, and we often hold volunteer meetups and events to say a big thank you.

We believe volunteering should be a 2-way relationship and strive to provide our volunteers with an exceptional experience, something that helped us to achieve the Investing in Volunteers accreditation in May 2024.

Together, we can make a real impact.

Your generosity helps us provide support to those in need, create opportunities, and build on our strong community. Every contribution counts and we are grateful for your support. To make a donation, email office@stjohnswinchester.co.uk. Thank you.
